Dominique Laurent began dance at an early age at Mayfair Academy where she studied ballet, tap and jazz under the direction of Peggy Sutton. There she was a member of the Mayfair Performing Company. Upon entering high school she focused on her academic studies and later returned to dance at Sammy Dyer School of Theatre. There she studied under Chicago tap artist Idella Reed-Davis. It was at the University of Illinois at Champaign that her love for dance sparked again and she joined Hip-notic, a hip-hop dance team and Omnimov, an African/modern based dance group. She later discovered that she had a strong interest in Praise Dance and Modern as a way of self-expression Dominique is the co-founder of the first praise dance team at the University of Illinois at Champaign, the Jericho Angels praise dance team. She also served as the Vice-President and Choreographer. Dominique received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Speech Communications with a Minor in Spanish from the University of Illinois in 2007.
Dominique is currently part of the St. Ailbe Praise Dance team where she has been a member since 2003. She is the Choreographer for the St. Ailbe Angels praise dance team, the youngest team at the church. Dominique is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. where she enjoys stepping and competing in step shows at different campuses and venues. She studied dance at Columbia College of Chicago and is currently pursing her Masters in Education so that she can continue to educate our youth in both dance and academics. She is continuing her dance growth with Deeply Rooted Dance Company under the direction of Kevin Iega Jeff and Gary Abbott in their dance training programs.
